Ownership: WFI is owned by Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG). With effect from 1 October 2025 the Federal Court approved the transfer of Insurance Australia Limited's intermediated insurance business to related company CGU Australia Pty Ltd, and WFI's site now names CGU Australia Pty Ltd trading as WFI as the issuer. Policies were previously issued by Insurance Australia Limited trading as WFI.
WFI is an insurance brand with a rural and regional focus. It offers farm, business, trades, home and investment property insurance, and workers compensation in Western Australia, largely through a network of local area managers. IAG says the brand's history dates back to 1919.
WFI is part of Insurance Australia Group (IAG), the ASX-listed owner of NRMA Insurance, CGU and ROLLiN'. The WFI website states that insurance is issued by CGU Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 62 004 478 960, AFSL 700014) trading as WFI.
That is a recent change of insurer inside the group. WFI policies were previously issued by Insurance Australia Limited. IAG states that CGU Australia Pty Ltd applied to the Federal Court to take over Insurance Australia Limited's intermediated insurance business, and that the court approved the transfer with effect from 1 October 2025. CGU Australia Pty Ltd also issues broker-sold CGU policies, so WFI and CGU share an insurer.
