How licensing works
A business that advises on or arranges insurance in Australia must either hold an Australian financial services (AFS) licence or be an authorised representative of a licensee. The licensee is responsible for its representatives and must belong to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
Check the official register
- Search ASIC Connect Professional Registers for the licence or representative number.
- Confirm the status is current and the name matches the business you are dealing with.
- Ask the business for its Financial Services Guide, which must name the licensee.
- If something does not match, you can report it to ASIC.
