Ownership: On 1 September 2025 IAG completed its acquisition of 90% of the shares in RACQ Insurance Limited for $855 million, including a 25-year exclusive distribution agreement, with an option to acquire the remaining 10% in two years. Before that date the insurer was wholly owned by RACQ. The RACQ brand and membership organisation remain with RACQ.
RACQ Insurance is the insurance sold under the name of the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland. Products include car, home, motorcycle, caravan and trailer, RV, boat and pet insurance, with travel insurance also offered under the RACQ name.
RACQ's website states that its insurance products, other than travel insurance, are issued by RACQ Insurance Limited (ABN 50 009 704 152, AFSL 233082) and arranged by RACQ Distribution Services Pty Ltd. RACQ Insurance Limited was previously owned outright by the club.
That changed on 1 September 2025, when Insurance Australia Group (IAG) announced it had completed the acquisition of 90% of the shares in RACQ Insurance, with an option over the remaining 10% in two years, and started a 25-year distribution arrangement with RACQ. The insurer is therefore now majority owned by IAG, the group behind NRMA Insurance, CGU and WFI, while RACQ continues to distribute the policies under its own brand.
