Ownership: RAC Insurance Pty Limited is still wholly owned by RAC WA. A sale of 100% of the insurer to IAG, with a 20-year partnership, was announced on 15 May 2025 but has NOT completed: the ACCC opposed it on 11 December 2025 and, after IAG re-notified under the new merger regime on 3 March 2026 and a Phase 2 review, determined on 23 September 2026 that it must not proceed. RAC states that IAG has lodged a public benefit application with the ACCC, which is undecided as at 6 October 2026.
RAC Insurance is the insurance arm of RAC, Western Australia's motoring club. It sells car, home and contents, landlord, motorcycle, caravan, boat and small business insurance, and also offers pet, travel and life cover under the RAC name.
General insurance is issued by RAC Insurance Pty Limited (ABN 59 094 685 882, AFSL 231222). RAC's website describes the company as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Automobile Club of W.A., so the insurer is owned by the member organisation and is not part of a listed insurance group.
A sale to Insurance Australia Group (IAG) was announced on 15 May 2025 but has not gone ahead. The ACCC opposed the deal in December 2025 and, after a second review under new merger laws, decided on 23 September 2026 that it must not proceed.
